چکیده
BACKGROUND: Balance impairment is a contributing factor to falls. Falls are leading cause of injury and death in older adults. An ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) device that can be prescribed as an intervention help individuals with compromised balance ambulate safely.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose this review was investigate the role orthoses have affecting community-dwelling adults.
METHODOLOGY: A scoping conducted searching MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, REHABDATA databases obtain appropriate literature meet following criteria: 1) quantitative research design; 2) studies participants over age 65; 3) drop-foot or sensory deficits lower extremity; 4) treatment unilateral bilateral AFOs; 5) outcome measure stability. retrieved articles were assessed based on internal validity, external objectivity, reliability study design interpretation results.
FINDINGS: 11 identified met inclusion criteria. Four major themes emerged analysis about impact adults: (1) AFOs improved lateral stability, (2) under static conditions, (3) provided reduction postural sway (4) increased walking speed CONCLUSIONS: evidence from findings indicate generally positive affect Clinicians consider effective improve some adult patient populations.

BACKGROUND Foot and ankle problems are highly prevalent fall risks in the elderly. Ankle foot orthoses designed to stabilize the foot and ankles have been studied within specific patient groups, but their efficacy with a less restrictive elderly population is unknown. This study investigated if custom-made ankle foot orthoses improve postural stability in older adults. METHODS Thirty ambulato...

Introduction: With aging, the pattern of walking is altered, and the person’s ability to walk will be decreased. Also, with the beginning of the aging process, the coordination of the postural control system was disturbed and lead to an unstable condition. A small biomechanical change in the lower limb is significant on postural control. The use of textured foot orthoses leads to improved effic...
